The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has today announced that Shooting will be included in the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games event program.

The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) received confirmation that Shooting’s expression of interest (EOI) had been successful and that Clay Target (Trap), 10m Air Pistol, 10m Air Rifle (Small-Bore) and Para Shooting would be included in the competition program for Victoria 2026. Unfortunately, the proposed Full-Bore event could not be accommodated despite being part of Shooting’s EOI.

This is a remarkable outcome for Shooting in what was an intense and competitive process underpinned by high-quality EOIs from a significant number of International Federations.  Shooting Australia’s CEO Adam Sachs said “Today’s announcement is something that our Shooting community should come together and celebrate. The process for inclusion of Phase 2 sports in the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games has been vastly different to previous Games. We are truly grateful for the significant contributions from and collaboration between Shooting’s key stakeholders including our International Federations, our national Member Organisations and their nominated representatives, and the wider Shooting community. This unified approach has resulted in Shooting’s re-admission to the Commonwealth Games and we are excited that our athletes and our sport has been given the opportunity to contribute to the success of Victoria 2026.

Today’s announcement was silent on the location of Shooting’s events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games but this is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Shooting Australia looks forward to working closely with the ISSF, the CGF, Victorian Government and Commonwealth Games Australia to progress plans for the successful delivery of an innovative, integrated event program for Shooting at the Commonwealth Games in less than four years’ time.”
